1. Topic

The first thing we need to consider is what we want to write about. It should be something that is relevant to us, but perhaps what’s even more important is that it should be relevant to our readers. Since we are a business and we already have a target audience and a niche, it is pretty straightforward for us, but if you are even considering starting a blog, it is important that the first thing you do is to define a niche and a target audience, and make sure you keep a red thread through your content. Without a red thread, context and relevance to your target audience, it will be difficult for you to retain your readers as they will begin to look elsewhere for the knowledge.

2. Title

Once we have defined our topic, we should make a title. Defining the title before you start writing will make it easier to stick to the subject, but if you prefer to create the title afterwards that’s also fine. At Speak Tourism, we usually define a title first and then adjust it if necessary.


For us, the most important thing about our titles is that they are catchy and that they contain some of the keywords that we associate ourselves with. It is very important to put some energy into making the title as captivating as possible because it is what your readers see first and if it is not catchy, people may not want to click on it. Keywords are important to include in the title, as you will improve your chances of appearing in organic searches relevant to your niche, when repeating a few keywords in both the title and the main text.

3. Content

When writing a blog post, there are not as many rules as, for instance, in articles, and how you choose to approach it is very individual. Our own approach is to write an introduction to the theme, then the body itself and finally a conclusion which, depending on the theme, can summarize or simply end the blog in a natural way. We try to make our blogs relatively short because who has time to sit and read page after page nowadays? People are hungry for information, but it should preferably go fast. We write a maximum of two pages per blog post, but again it depends on your niche and your style.


Another important thing is keywords. Just as in the title, it is important that you get a few key words into the blog post and repeat them a few times. It just gives better results in the organic searches, and in Digital Marketing we love good statistics!

4. Image search

It is important to include images in your blog post. Just as people do not bother to read page after page in a blog post, they also can’t be bothered to read a two-page text without pictures. Many people skim a text and use pictures to understand the topic better, so it’s a good idea to spend a little extra time finding a good image to increase the understanding and to ease the text a bit. Quantity and ratio of images and text depends on context and niche. We are a company and knowledge-based, so we can sometimes be a little text-heavy. Get ahead and see what works for YOUR blog!


It is also important that you respect copyright when finding your images. On sites like Pexels and Unsplash, you can find images that are free to use for everyone, so you avoid having problems with copyright.

5. How often do I need to create new content?

In order for your readers to remember you and stay engaged with your profile, it is important to make a new blog post relatively often. It can be 1-2 times a week, or twice a month depending on your industry. Are you a real estate agent, two blogs a month is just fine, but if you are a full-time blogger you need to produce more content to outsmart others! However, it can be difficult to produce content, but don’t worry, once it has become a habit, you should be able to post at least once a week.

If you are not sure about being able to create new content every week, then try to “newsjack” new trends or news in your area. Newjacking means that you write about and mention new trends or news within your niche, and rewrite it in your own words. Your readers do not necessarily keep up with the new trends in your field, so being able to read it from your blog before most other sites will definitely be in your favor!

It is also important that you share your blog posts on different platforms, to reach as many people as possible. Mention that you posted again on your Instagram story and share the link on Facebook, or post on LinkedIn with industry news. That way, you will be driving a lot more traffic to your site while getting engagement on your other profiles.

6. SEO – optimize your blog

If you’ve ever had anything to do with digital marketing before, then the chance you’ve heard the abbreviation SEO before is pretty big – Search Engine Optimization. But what is it really? And what does this have to do with your blog? In fact, having an active and relevant blog on your website can actually help position your website higher in a search engine, such as Google. But how?

  3. The more keywords related to your niche, the more traffic will be directed to your website!
  4. You have the option of inserting internal links that direct your readers to your other blog posts, which is also an advantage when it comes to SEO!
  5. Having a high quality blog gives people a reason to link to your website compared to if you did not have a blog. This shows the search engines that your site offers valuable information.
  6. A blog helps you create a more personal relationship with your audience, which makes the chances of them sticking around much higher!

7. Is writing a blog post in 2019 even something for my business?

You may not associate the word “blogger” with your business and may not see yourself in it, but blogging can mean many things. Forget about calling yourself a blogger on your business card, think of it as content for your website instead. What do your customers always ask you about? What could be fun to read about? How can you become more personal with your customers? What good tips and tricks have you learned over the years? Create a blog! Create a greater interest in your business that goes beyond your products or services, give your customers a reason to visit your website without having to buy your products! People read your stuff and who knows ..
